Apple Crisp
I know, that is an embarrassingly large dollop of whipped cream on top of that apple crisp, but what can I say? I'm a whipped cream girl. I love this apple crisp--it's one of those foods that just tastes like home. And when the weather is cold and nasty it's especially nice to curl up inside with a bowl of this. Then there's the added bonus that it contains apples and oatmeal, so you can tell yourself that it's a healthy dessert. At least, that's what I'll be telling myself while I'm digging through all that whipped cream.
Ingredients
Filling:
5 large cooking apples (peeled and sliced)
1 c. sugar
2 T. (heaping) flour
1/4 t. cinnamon
Pinch salt
Topping:
1 c. oatmeal
1 c. flour
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 t. soda
1/2 t. baking powder
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 c. butter, melted
Directions
Mix filling ingredients together and put in greased 9x13" pan. Sprinkle with topping and bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Serve hot with ice cream or top with whipped cream.

Mmmm I love apple crisp. It is one of the warmest, coziest winter foods. Yours looks really good!
I love apple crisp... I had it once at a restaurant with cinnamon ice cream, which was divine!
I always try to rationalize desserts as healthy... I'm like, "Oh, lemon meringue pie, it's fruit, and vitamin C and eggs. I think I'll have a slice for breakfast!"
Hi Becca, congratulations for your nice blog !!!
Life is too short to pass on a big dollop of whipped cream, Becca.
I love apple crisp and will give your recipe a try, along with the pumpkin whoopie pies — what fun!
And welcome to the Foodie Blogroll. (Nice apron!) :-)
Yum , that looks great!
Thanks everyone! Pumpkin, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that justifies eating dessert for breakfast. It reminds me of Bill Cosby: "Eggs! Eggs are in chocolate cake! And milk! Oh goody! And wheat! That's nutrition!"
And Barbara, someone should embroider your whipped cream quote on a throw pillow. Amen, sister.
Hi! I just found this recipe through a Google search, and the smell of apple crisp is wafting over to me as we speak. Can't wait to taste it, and to see what other goodies you have posted!
Thank you! :)
